My new best friend ;)

Once again, other photos will have to wait -- because my new lens arrived and today I had (!!) to play with it!  It's a Canon 50mm 1.4, and it's making me happier than ice cream sundaes right now.  :)  I could only squeeze in a few minutes to shoot (rats!), but here's one of my favorites, taken at f/1.4:

Isn't that shallow depth of field beautiful?  I can't wait to use this lens for portraits!

  1. I know! My favorite lens is my 85mm 1.2 for that same reason - I'm totally in love with the bokeh :)

  2. Ooh, Amanda, I'd love to have an 85 1.2...played with one last year at a workshop and that thing is amazing!

  3. wow, I LOVE that! the picture is beautiful. all I have is the 50mm f/1.8 right now and it has been SO much fun to play with, even though my camera won't autofocus with it. :-/ But anyway, my first goal would be to upgrade to a camera that WILL autofocus with it, and then one day Lord willing get the 50mm f/1.4 or better yet {or both?!} the 85 f/1.2 =)

happiness! this picture makes me SMILE though! it is awesome!

  4. Thanks, Ruthann! I love making people smile!!! :D

Yes, I'd love to have that 85 1.2 someday...we'll just have to wait for "someday" I guess. ;) What camera body are you shooting with? No autofocus with the 50mm must be annoying. You're probably getting some crazy focusing skills though! :D

  5. Kelsey,

Thanks. Actually I shoot with Nikon so I have the D40x. When I first got my 50mm and immediately realized it didn't autofocus, I was VERY bummed and basically the lens sat there for a year without being touched. Then I picked it up, found out that manual focusing wasn't too bad after all, found out what an AMAZING lens it was and the lens hardly left my camera. Albeit, I don't take it on a portrait shoot unless I'm just doing something fun with my siblings, cause it just takes a little bit extra time and thought. But yes, learning manual focus has really been neat! Then...I dropped my camera, broke it, and had to pay the sum of repairs, so any saved money went down the drain. ;( So now we start all over again hoping for at least a D300 one day... :)

Sorry for such a long comment!

Hope you're having a lovely day!

  6. Oh, that must be sooo frustrating! :P I've dropped lenses before but never my cameras. The one time I've needed repair, I had a service contract, thank goodness. :)

You know, I have one photographer friend who did only manual-focus for years. She just didn't trust auto-focus. (She's changed her mind since!) But I think it's great that you have that skill.

Hope you get to go camera-shopping again someday soon! Ya know, the longer you wait, the better they get...at least you can be happy about that! ;)
